Leifers is the youngest city (since 1985) in South Tyrol and has one of the fastest growing population figures in the province. New developments cluster along the frequented north-south traffic route. Leifers is clearly divided into two different parts: the main settlement at the edge of the bottom of the Etschtal, including the village of St. Jakob bordering Bozen in the south, the residential area of Steinmannwald, which was built between 1950 and 1980, and the scattered settlement of Leifers on the fan of the Branten Torrent, which has developed into a suburb of Bozen. The scattered farmhouses on the terraces of the Regglberg also belong to Leifers.
