Branzoll, one of the smallest villages in South Tyrol, had been the head station for the bateau shipping on the Etsch River before the railway was built. Conveniently placed as regards transport facilities and due to its proximity to Bozen (8 km), Branzoll today has a steadily growing population with an italian majority. Branzoll, at the bottom of the Reggl Mountain, stretches along the left bank of the Etsch River, which also forms its western border. A quarter of Branzoll's area is forested. Till the 1960's porphyry was quarried here.
