Walchsee lies in the north-eastern corner of the district of Kufstein. It is situated together with Lake Walchsee (94 hectares) on the northern foothills of the Zahmer Kaiser Mountain. Northwest of warm, boggy lake, Tyrol's largest moor (the so called "Schwemm"; 63 hectares) with typical high moor plants is located. Walchsee is located on the northern shores of the lake. Even though the village is characterized by tourism, some typical farmhouses and guesthouses with ornamented facades still can be found. Population figures have tripled since 1939. Both Walchsee and the surrounding hamlets are expanding.
