Ramsau is situated east of the Ziller River, in the upper part of the Zillertal. Ramsau encompasses the villages of Ramsau and Bichl at the bottom of the valley and the scattered village of Ramsberg, which is still characterized by the farming sector. The Ramsberg Lift was opened in 1969 and connects the village with the skiing area of Gerlosstein. Renaming Ramsberg into Ramsau clearly indicates the change affecting the village, which is shown by the expanding settlements, the numerous commercial and tourism - related businesses in the villages at the bottom of the valley. A supplier for the automobile industry (350 jobs) is one of the largest companies in the entire valley.
