Hart is situated on the western mountain-slopes in the lower Zillertal. The village encompasses the centre of Hart, some hamlets on the valley bottom and Harterberg with its widely scattered impressive detached farmhouses. The name Kohlstatt refers to the once important mining in Kleinboden on the other side of the valley. In Kohlstatt the timber that was rafted on the Ziller River was made into charcoal. At this time more than 1400 people lived in Hart. Today many people in Hart have to commute to work in other villages. The village still has one of the highest proportions in people working in the agricultural sector. |
