Mayrhofen and Aschau in the centre of the Zillertal are the only villages that extend on either side of the Ziller River. Aschau encompasses the village bearing the same name and the hamlets of Erlau and Mitterdorf, which have grown into a larger settlement, in the west, and the hamlets of Thurnbach and Distelbach in the east. Aschau is still characterized by agriculture, which still plays a significant role, small commercial enterprises and enterprises related to tourism. The high quality of life in Aschau has led to an increase in population figures. Most of the people commute to their work outside the village. |
