Thurn stretches from Lienz up to the crests of the Schobergruppe Mountains. The settlement is situated on the upper part of the large fan of the Zauchen Torrent, 2 to 3 km north of Lienz. Thurn is subdivided into three settlements: Dorf/Thurn with the parish church and the administrative centre, Oberdorf and Zauche. Within the last 50 years Thurn's population has doubled due to a great number of new houses and the proximity to Lienz. Being a part of the skiing area of Zettersfeld, Thurn has a numerous weekend houses and Alpine huts.
