Schönwies in the Oberinntal region is situated between the two district capitals of Imst and Landeck. Even though the village is separated from the Landecker Basin by a rock with Castle Kronburg and therefore is closer to the region around Imst, it politically belongs to the district of Landeck. In the narrow gap south of the Inn River, Schönwies is subdivided into long-stretching settlements. In Starkenbach, the most western settlement, which is situated on a fan, a treasure bearing Roman silver coins was found in the mid 19th century. In the western part of the Starkenbach fan limestone gravel is quarried today. |
