Flirsch, the smallest village in the Stanzertal, gained its independence in 1813. Prehistoric excavations show that the area around Flirsch has long been inhabited before it was first mentioned in a document in the mid 14th century. Today Flirsch is subdivided into 20 districts and hamlets on both banks of the Rosanna River. Flirsch's economy is based on summer and winter tourism. The industrial development with the establishment of a Loden-cloth company in 1886 was over when the company closed down. During the time of the textile production Flirsch was the village with the highest income in the district of Landeck.
