Oberhofen is situated south of the Inn River. Oberhofen has strong historical connections to the monastery in Stams and to the neighbouring village of Pfaffenhofen, to which it belonged until 1786. Even though several great fires destroyed parts of the village in the past, Oberhofen is still a rural village with its gable roofed farmhouses. One tries to revitalize and renovate the old centre. Due to the proximity to nearby Telfs, Oberhofen offers a good infrastructure for medium-sized companies.
