The formerly sparsely settled village of Rietz has grown significantly in recent times. Rietz, in the Oberinntal region, is the most eastern village of the political district of Imst. It is situated on the fan of the Rietz Torrent, which has frequently devastated the village. People in Rietz could not gain their living entirely from agriculture due to the scanty soil in the region. They therefore focused on outwork, such as the production of rosaries and lace making. Due to its proximity to nearby attractive excursion destinations (Zugspitze, Ötztal, Seefeld, Innsbruck), Rietz has become a destination for soft tourism. Many companies can be found in Rietz, such as an innovative recycling and waste disposal firm, a printing house and the Tyrolean headquarter of a supermarket chain.
