Proveis, which belongs to the district of Burggrafenamt, is one of the three German-speaking villages in the Nonsberg Valley (Trentino). Together with Laurein, Proveis stretches along the southern slopes of the Ultner Mountains in the Pescara Basin. The groups of farmhouses are situated scatteredly on the mountain slopes. Agriculture is the main source of income for the people, as the workshops in the village hardly provide any jobs. Many people leave Proveis to find employment outside the village, leading to a high migration rate. This trend has not been stopped, since the road over the Hofmahd Saddle, linking the village directly with St. Pankraz in Ulten, was opened in 1998. |
