Marling is situated opposite of Meran, on the right bank of the Etsch River and at the foot and on the slopes of the Marlinger Mountain. The compact centre is surrounded by impressive mansions, farmhouses within vineyards and orchards. At the beginning of the 20th century a cooperative of wine farmers and later one for fruit farmers was founded. This clearly reflects the importance of these two segments of the agricultural sector. Since the last 30 years tourism has become the most important economic sector. This has been possible due to the proximity to Meran and the mild climate of the region.
