The historic market town of Neumarkt is situated on the fan of the Trudner Torrent, on the left bank of the Etsch River in the Unterland region. The market town has an urban character with compact arboured lanes, oriels, stone doors and mansions. Neumarkt encompasses the village of Vill in the east, Laag further downstream and the hamlet of Gfrill on the mountain slopes of the Trudner Horn. In contrast to tourism, which only plays a minor role, industrial, trading, commercial businesses and agriculture are the main sources of income. Neumarkt is the administrative centre of the district of Überetsch-Unterland, with some public facilities of regional importance. It furthermore attracts commuters from the entire Unterland region. |
