Most of the Tuxertal belongs to Tux. The population is concentrated along the valley and encompasses Vorderlanersbach (1300 m), Tux (former Lanersbach), Juns, Madseit and Hintertux with its hot springs (1500 m). Scattered mountain farmhouses, the highest permanent settlement in the Zillertal (Geislerhöfe at an altitude of 1630 m) and alpine pasture lands clearly show the importance of the farming sector. Besides farming, tourism has become the major impact on the economy and landscape in the Tuxertal: The settlements in the valley are characterized by hotels and guesthouse. The Hintertuxer Glacier has been a year-round glacier skiing area since the 1960's. After Mayrhofen, Tux has the highest number of overnight stays in the Zillertal.
