Gallzein with its eight hamlets is situated on a plateau on the northern foothills of the Kellerjoch Mountain, south of the Inn River. The settlement can be traced back to the Middle Ages, when it was linked with the mining industry in Schwaz. Today the old houses of the miners still show this linkage. Even though several businesses have been established during the 1950's and 1960's, many people in Gallzein still have to commute to nearby villages.
