Eben am Achensee consists of the hamlet of Eben with its parish church St. Notburga, which is also a pilgrimage site, the rapidly expending tourist village of Maurach, the hotels of Pertisau, as well as some new developments of significant size. Parts of Hinterriss, which can only be reached from Bavaria, are also a part of Eben. The Bächental is famous for the locally produced mineral extracts. A large part of Eben belongs to the nature reserve of the "Alpenpark Karwendel". Eben's geographical position at Lake Achen with the starting point of the ships operating on the lake as well as the terminus of the Achensee steam-rack railroad have functioned as the driving forces for the development and the beginning of tourism in the mid-19th century.
