The small village of Grän is situated in the Tannheimertal, a high valley at the Bavarian border. The scattered village, formerly away from the main road, can now easily be accessed from Germany's southern parts due to the building of a road through the Engetal to Pfronten in Bavaria. With the development of the skiing area at the Füssener Jöchl, Grän has steadily become one of the most famous winter sport centres in the Außerfern region. The hamlet of Haldensee, close to the lake which bears the same name, has become a centre for tourism too. Grän furthermore has a regionally known cheese dairy.
