Tristach is situated south of the Drau River in the Lienzer Basin. The village is only 3 km away from the city centre of Lienz, which is reflected in the form of settlement. Tristach is subdivided into three settlements. In contrast to Tristach, which has managed to keep its rural character, Neudorf has expanded within the last decades. New houses between the road to Lienz and the Drau River have been built. Today Neudorf and Lienz form an agglomeration. The picturesque Lake Tristach, which is the only swimming lake in East Tyrol, is located in a trough at the foot of the Rauchkofel Mountain. Tourism with the former Spa Jungbrunn has a long tradition.
