The entrance to the Tierser Tal is situated southeast of Blumau in the lower Eisacktal. The village of Tiers lies in the central part of the valley within the Dolomites Mountains, surrounded by the breathtaking Rosengarten Mountain Range in the east and the Schlern Mountain in the North. Tiers is part of the Schlern Nature Reserve and attracts many tourists in summer and winter with its beautiful landscape. The main route to Tiers no longer goes on the steep road through the narrow gorge at the entrance to the Tierser Tal, but on the road (built in the late 1970's) from Völser Aicha, which belongs to the village of Völs am Schlern. Over the Niger Pass one reaches the Karer Pass, which is part of the popular round trip through the Dolomite Mountains.
