The village of Stilfs, with its scattered central village, is situated high up on the sunny slope of the Großen Montoni Mountain, west of the entrance to the Suldental. Near the less attractive settlement of Gomagoi in the valley, the Suldental runs into two different directions: one part goes due southeast to Außer- and later to Innersulden, an old tourist centre at the foot of the Ortler Mountain in which skiing on the glacier is possible the entire year and the Trafoier Tal in the southwest with the village of Trafoi, a popular tourist resort in the 19th century with a number of buildings dating back to this time. Trafoi is the starting point for the spectacular road, which was opened in 1826, up to the Stilfser Joch. Stilfs is located within the Stilfser Joch National Park.
