The market town of Naturns, located in the lower Vinschgau Valley, belongs politically to the district of Burggrafenamt. The village stretches on either side of the Etsch River and encompasses the northern (Naturnser Sonnenberg) and southern slopes (Nörderberg) of the valley. The market town is subdivided into the administrative centre of Naturns and the villages of Staben and Tabland. Naturns, with its mild climate at the foot of the Sonnenberg, furthermore includes farms high up the slopes of the mountain. Its economy is mainly based on tourism and fruit-growing with some trading and small industrial businesses. Situated along the main traffic route through the Vinschgau Valley, Naturns suffers greatly from through traffic. A tunnelled bypass should help to relief Naturns from this strain in the future.
