Altrei, one of the smallest villages in South Tyrol, is situated on a terrace in southern Regglberg and extends into the Fleimstal (Trentino). The Avisio River forms the southern border. Altrei is furthermore situated at the linguistic border between the German-speaking South Tyrol and the predominantly Italian-speaking Trentino. Even though Altrei is located away from the main traffic routes, the village does not have to deal with the problem of migration. Characterized by the farming sector, Altrei is situated within the Trudner Horn Nature Reserve, which might help to foster the development of soft tourism in the village.
