Wildermieming is situated on the eastern part of the Mieminger Plateau, which forms a connection between the Inntal near Telfs and the Fern Pass. Till 1833 Mieming and Wildermieming formed one political unit. In 1925 Wildermieming became part of the district of Innsbruck. The secluded scattered village was first mentioned in a document in 1313 and is located away from the main road at the bottom of the jagged Mieminger Mountain Range. Wildermieming gained some fame with the so called "Bergdoktorhaus", a reproduction of a house used in a formerly popular TV series. The village offers a wide range of activities (hiking, cycling, ...) for soft tourism. The hamlet of Affenhausen, along the road, with its new housing developments has expanded in recent times.
