Vintl is the most western village in the district of Pustertal. The 6 km long village encompasses either bank of the Rienz River and the steep mountain slopes. The village of Obervintl is situated on the northern edge of the valley. The central village and administrative centre of Niedervintl is located west of Obervintl, at the entrance to the Pfunderer Tal which runs to the main chain of the Alps in the north. The local economy has been based on large commercial and industrial companies, which are located along the main road through the Pustertal, for decades. Because of its economic strength, people have moved to the villages at the bottom of the valley. The expanding villages of Weidental and Pfunds and the scattered villages on the slopes in the Pfunderer Tal are still characterized by agriculture. |
