Weer, which has been settled for millennia, is situated on the eastern side of the fan of the Weer Torrent. The former rural village has expanded significantly as more and more people have moved to Weer. The main reason for this development is the proximity to the provincial capital of Innsbruck (20 km) and the industrial town of Wattens (Swarovski and paper mill). Weer (district of Schwaz) and neighbouring Kolsass (district of Innsbruck-Land) on the western side of the fan are closely linked through a shared primary school in Kolsass and a shared secondary school in Weer.
