The picture of Obertilliach can be found in nearly every illustrated book about Austria. Obertilliach is a picturesque compact scattered village on a beautiful fan on the sunny side of the upper Lesachtal, embedding among the Lienzer Dolomites Mounatin Range and the Karnischen Alps. In 1978 the village decided to preserve its centre with the beautiful Tyrolean and Carinthian farmhouses. Buildings can only be altered after the office concerning the preservation of monuments has agreed on. New developments can be found on the periphery. Some hamlets and isolated farmhouses on the sunny slope east and west of the centre belong also to Obertilliach. There is still one night watch on duty in the village. |
