Mils is located on the largest fan in the Inntal (8.6 km²), which was formed more than 6000 years B.C. 1953 the Swarovski company bought the upper, dry part of the fan ("Milser Heide") and developed it. Today one finds detached family houses with gardens in this area. The centre of Mils lies in the middle of the fan, where the debris is finer and the hazard of flooding low. Today Mils and the Milser Heide form one agglomeration. Agriculture is to be found on the lowest part of the fan. Important roads run along the edge of the fan, where an industrial park was build in 1998.
