The Plansee is the largest lake in the Ausserfern Region. Most of the lake, which has a high water quality, belongs to the village of Breitenwang. Due to its depth (up to 70 metres) the Plansee is a cool, refreshing lake for bathing. A channel links the Plansee with Heiterwanger See. Since 1903 the water of the lake is used for generating electricity at the power plant Reutte.
