Image collection »Achensee«

The Achensee is the largest and with its 133 metres the deepest lake in the Tyrol. In former times its water ran through the Achen Valley due north into the Isar. Today its water is used for the Achensee hydroelectric power plant in Jenbach in the south. The lake was transformed into a reservoir. Shipping on the Achensee plays an important role. Since 1887 steamboats have been operating on the lake. In former times these steamboats were not only important for the transportation of people, but also for the transportation of goods. Today the steamboats are tourist attractions.
