Image collection »Lech«
The Lech is the largest and most important river in the Ausserfern Region. The river runs out of the Formarinsee in Vorarlberg, running through the Lech Valley, crossing the Tyrolean-Bavarian border at Entenstein and later meeting the Danube. In former times the Lech was an important traffic route, but also threatened the life of the people living nearby. This hazard could be stopped by building several hydroelectric power plants. Nevertheless the Lech has remained most of its original, wild run, which the river is famous for outside Austria. The floodplains of the Lech with their rich diversity in animal- and plant life are nature reserves.
