Image collection »Ostallgäu«

The Ostallgäu with Marktoberdorf as its main town is characterised by its many lakes and the castles of King Ludwig II. The castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are popular tourist sights and represent the major source of income for the local population. A Roman road ran from Augsburg via Füssen and the Fernpass and the Reschenpass to the Adriatic which brought a little prosperity to the region. Numerous archaeological finds of stone tools, however, also bear witness to earlier human settlements around 8000-4000BC.
