Ried is situated in the centre of the Zillertal and stretches along the road on the fan of the Ried Torrent. The scattered village of Riederberg with its mountain farmhouses lies on the slopes above the valley. Riederberg is still a rural village based on the farming sector, whereas Ried's economy offers a wide spectrum of different businesses in the commercial and industrial sector, as well as in the service sector. In the last years new developments have led to an increase in population figures, which was the largest in the Zillertal in the last decade.
