Niederndorf, at the Tyrolean-Bavarian border, was founded by Bavarians, who stubed the forest to build their settlement. The centre of Niederndorf is a scattered village of considerable size with the parish church of St. Georges (which dates back to the year 1376) and several impressive farmhouses, giving the village a rural character. Next to the centre several other villages, such as Aue, Pittlham, Sebi and Hölzelsau are to be found. Some are characterized by numerous new developments. Historians think that above Hölzelsau, ruins of an old fortress might be situated. Some years ago a new industrial park was built, which has lead to an economic boom in the village. Many people in Niederndorf, however, still commute to neighbouring villages or to nearby Bavaria.
