Image collection »Absam«

The village of Absam is situated south of the Karwendel Mountain Range, at the entrance of the Hall Valley. The village consists of several settlement units. First, there is the scattered village of Absam with its centre along the main road. Second, the exclusive residential area that is coalesced with the town of Hall. Also Eichat, which has been expanding along the Salzberg Road since the second half of the 20th century. In 1947 Swarovski Optik started to develop Eichat, which is now an independent parish with its own school. The economy of Absam developed in the course of salt mining with the linked manufacturing industries. From the 19th century onwards, the industrial sector has played an important role. Since the 18th century, Tyrol's most famous St. Mary's pilgrimage site is to be found in Absam.
