Image collection »Ampezzaner Dolomiten«
The Ampezzaner Dolomiten surround Cortina d'Ampezzo, a tourist resort with a long tradition. The boundaries orientate themselves according to very small units. Striking boundaries are Lago Misurina, Lago di Cadore and the Lago di Valle Cadore. Sub-groups are the Cristallogruppe, east of Cortina d'Ampezzo with Monte Cristallo (3221 m), the Sorapissgruppe with the Sporapiss-Spitze (3205 m) / Punta Sorapiss to the southeast of the town, and the Tofanagruppe with the Tofana di Mezzo (3244 m) to the west of Cortina. As was the case in other parts of the Dolomites, numerous battles took place here during World War I. The military facilities and mountain paths formed the bases for today's dense network of climbing routes.
