Image collection »Villnösser Tal«

Like many other valleys the entrance to the Villnößer Tal starts gorge-like south of Brixen. Only further up the valley it widens to a beautiful high valley. The geology of the valley is characterized by phyllit. In the central part of the valley quartz-porphyry plays an important role. The valley's diverse landscape was caused by interglacial gravel, which fills the valley. First settlements can be traced back to prehistoric times. Most of the valley belongs to the Puez - Geisler Nature Reserve (10,200 ha). In this nature reserve geologist find all rocks, sediments and weathering forms which are typical for the Dolomiten.
