Image collection »Ritten«

Bozner quartz porphyry forms the basis of the Ritten, a high plateau between Sarntal in the west and Eisacktal in the east. Grödner sandstone forms the upper layers. Especially in winter the Ritten - compared to the valley - has a milder climate due to intensive sunshine. Due to its location and the mild climate the Ritten has become an early summer resort for the citizens of Bozen. Till the mid 1960s cars were banned from the Ritten. The only connection between the Ritten and the valley was the rack railway, which was built in 1906/07. Since the construction of the road, the Ritten has become a popular housing area. The earth pyramids are worth visiting.
