Image collection »Gadertal«
Even though the Gadertal lies within the Dolomites, one can hardly see the Dolomites Mountains at the entrance of the valley between St. Leonhard and the Pustertal. The river Gader forms a steep gorge in the bedrock of quartz- porphyry. From St. Leonhard further upstream the valley is called Abteital. From here the valley widens and one can see the most important alpenstocks of the northern Dolomites Mountains: the Heiligkreuzkofel, the Peitlerkofel as the striking summit, the Puezgruppe with the Sella in the back. The densely built groups of farmhouses, the so called "viles", are typical for the valley. The "viles" in Enneberg are worth visiting. Wide pastures with larches and alpine pastures on which numerous species of alpine flowers can be found are typical for the regional agriculture. Due to the intensive grazing in the forests in the Gadertal, erosions and landslides have been caused. The villages of Enneberg, St. Kassian and Corvara are dominated by tourism.
