Image collection »Eggental«

The entrance to the Eggental is formed by a narrow gorge. The geology of the valley is dominated by Bozner porphyry, which gets its reddish colour from the high proportion of quartz. The bedrock is cliffy and leaks water. The valley is well known for its forests, which reach an altitude of 1900 m. The valley was settled from two different directions. Reggelberg with its centre Deutschnofen was settled from the German-speaking side, whereas Welschnofen was founded by Ladinic settlers. Over centuries agriculture and forestry formed the basis of the life in the valley. When the great Dolomitenstraße was built in 1860 tourism started in the Eggental.
