Image collection »Untere Schranne«

The area Untere Schranne includes the communities of Ebbs, Erl, Niederndorf, Niederndorfberg, Rettenschöss and Walchsee. The scenically strongly linked region on the border to Bavaria lies in the transitional region of the Alps with the Zahmen Kaiser and the flat Alpenvorland. The region is divided into the section in the west drained by the Inn, the Walchseesenke and the basin-like extension at Kössen with the Großache. Early traces of settlements in the area can be seen in the cave the Tischofer Höhle in Ebbs. In Roman times the Untere Schranne was an important part of the long distance route through Central Europe. The development of tourism brought holidaymakers from the not too distant Munich. Nowadays in this region above all summer tourism plays a particularly important role. A special attraction are river trips on the Inn from Kufstein to Oberau.
