Image collection »Vilsfall - waterfall«
The Vils, the tributary with the greatest water volume running into the Lech, provides the water for the Vilsfall waterfall that flows over a number of cascades. This over 30 m high waterfall is created by a narrow stretch of water along the Vils at Schattwald. Since 1922 the Vilsfall waterfall has been used to produce hydro-electric power and since that time has supplied the Tannheimer Tal valley with electricity. The scenic beauty of the waterfall has been impaired a little through some of its waters having to be channelled off, however, it remains very impressive.
