The Mendelpass is the deepest incision in the Mendelkamm mountain range. It is the connection between the Überetsch and the Nonsberg. The road was already improved in the 19th century for military purposes and an electric funicular railway was built from St Anton near Kaltern up onto the pass. The Mendelbahn is the steepest and longest funicular in Europe.
