Image collection »Karer Pass«
The Karerpass is a further pasture ridge in the Dolomites between the Latemar Mountain Group and the Rosengarten. The term "Kar", included in the name, refers to a concave formation in the mountains created by glacial activity. The Karersee is located on the ridge. A sorcerer fell in love with a nymph who lived in the lake and in order to abduct her he tried to entice her out of the lake with a rainbow which he had strung between the mountains. However the nymph was aware of the sorcerer's intention and disappeared forever. In his rage the sorcerer smashed the rainbow and threw it into the water. The lake still glitters in all the colours of the rainbow which is why it is often called the Regenbogensee (Rainbow Lake).
