Image collection »Maria Brettfall (The Visitation of the Virgin Mary)«

Maria Brettfall is a small pilgrimage church high above the Strass in the Zillertal valley. Pilgrimages to this little church go back to the mining times of the early middle ages. It's name refers to the legend of a pious miner and a carved picture of the Virgin Mary that he prayed to on this spot. A wooden chapel mentioned in records has existed here since the 17th century. The church one can see nowadays was built in 1726. The little church was consecrated by Prince-Bishop Count Künigl of Brixen to the honour of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. From it terrace visitors get a beautiful view over the Inn and Zillertal valleys. A snack bar for walkers and hikers has been integrated into the church.
