Schloss Boymont castle is located above the area of Missian within the community of Eppan on the wine route. This Romanesque castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century by a side-line of the Counts of Eppan. Surprisingly its main function was as a residence rather than a defensive fortification. The symmetrical ground plan with its main hall, two residential tracts and two habitable towers is unusual for the middle ages. Boymont burnt down in 1742 and has never been rebuilt. Now there is an inn for walkers and hikers in the inner courtyard of the castle ruins.
