Image collection »Velthurns«

The original castle of Velthurns dates back to the 12th century and was built by the lords of Velthurns. When the castle was already under the ownership of the Lord Bishops of Brixen in the 16th century, they built a magnificent summer residence on the foundations of the old castle that is now often referred to as a noble renaissance residence. The building still looks like a castle from the outside but its ornate interior reminds one more of a palace. The former "royal or duke's room" is of particular artistic historical value, the inlay work on the ceiling is, for example, made up of 35 different kinds of wood. Nowadays this renaissance building is owned by the Province of South Tyrol and it houses the exhibition of the local museum of Feldthurns.
