Castle Trostburg overlooks Waidbruck like on a balcony. From here one can guard the most important north-south route over the Alps (Brenner) excellently. An old paved route runs next to the castle. This road once linked the Eisacktal with Gröden and was easy to control. The castle dates back to the 12th century and was later enlarged. For nearly 600 years (1385-1967) the castle was owned by the Family Wolkenstein. Today it belongs to the Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, which has its seat in the castle. Castle Trostburg can be visited and houses a collection of models of castles.
