Image collection »Castle Taufers«
Castle Taufers lies on a bank in front of a slope at the entrance to the Ahrntal. From here it controlled not only the entrance to the valley, but also the traffic due north across the main crest of the Alps. After the castle had been built in the 13th century it later was turned into a residence. Despite that the castle still looks heavily fortified with its massive towers and walls. Today Castle Taufers belongs to the Südtiroler Burginstitut. Visitors can visit the lavishly decorated Fürstenzimmer, the library, the guest room and the dungeon.
