Image collection »Fortress Ehrenberg«
Fortress Ehrenberg is situated south of Reutte where the road over the Fernpass runs through a narrow gorge. The princes of the Tyrol built several fortresses and fortifications here, which should protect and control the road and the centre of the Tyrol. The Ehrenberger hermitage stretches over the old road at the bottom of the valley. Today the hermitage houses a museum and it is the only building which is still partly intact. On the slopes of either side of the road Fortress Claudia and the old ruin of Ehrenberg Castle once controlled the road. Fortress Schlosskopf lies slightly higher than the ruins of Ehrenberg Castle. It was built 1741 and is therefore the latest building complex added.
